Doja Cat and Jared Letowere among the guests who captured attention at the 2023 Met gala because of how they turned up. Both had popped in for the gala rocking looks inspired by Karl Lagerfeld. Their appearance might not be surprising in the sense that the theme of the day was structured to honour the late fashion stylist.
Lagerfeld was a German fashion designer who served as creative director at Chanel from 1983 until his death. He passed away in 2019, aged 85. He may have left the material plane, but his legacy is still very much alive – a reality exemplified by what went down at the Met Gala.
Lagerfeld was famous as much for his position at Chanel as for his cat Choupette. Interestingly, the cat wouldn’t want the stress of showing up for the Met Gala and sent her apologies in an Instagram post instead.
Well, for Doja Cat, besides honouring the late fashion icon with her looks at the Met Gala, it might be said that she honoured herself as well – after all, there is a “cat” to her adopted stage name.
Wherever Lagerfeld is right now, he would certainly be pleased with the knowledge that his legacy is still alive and humming.
