Dwayne Hickman Is Dead at 87

Dwayne Hickman popular known as Dobie Gillis has died at the age of 87.

Popular actor, Dwayne Hickman, famous for his starring role in the revered sitcom “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” has died at the age of 87. According to reports, Hickman passed on on Sunday, January 9 in Los Angeles.

A spokesman for Hickman’s family has revealed the cause of his death to be complications from Parkinson’s disease. Hickman attained massive recognition in the late 1950s. He had starred in the hit TV series “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” which was broadcast on CBS from 1959 to 1963. The film remained in syndication for years after it ended.

The veteran actor is known to be one of TV’s first teenage idols. He attained so much recognition for portraying the lovelorn hero in the series that the character has followed him throughout the years. This posed a bit of a problem for him when it came to landing new roles after the show had run its course

Born in Los Angeles in 1934, Hickman said he had never planned on pursuing a career in acting. His first screen role was landed by accident. His mother had brought him along to his older brother, Darryl’s audition for “The Grapes of Wrath,” the 1940 Henry Fonda vehicle.
