Ed Sheeran and wife, Cherry Seaborn welcome their first child, a baby girl named, Lyra.
Boy, are we happy for Ed Sheeran. The Grammy-winning British singer has announced the birth of his first child with his very “perfect” wife, Cherry Seaborn who inspired the number one hit.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, September 1, he shared a photo of the newborn’s tiny adorable socks and revealed in the captions that they welcomed her last week. He revealed her name to be Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, saying that he and Cherry “are completely in love with her” and “are on cloud nine”. He also stated that Lyra and her mother, are in good health, and asked for privacy.
Ed and Sheeran got married in 2018. The couple reportedly met for the first time when Sheeran was 11. However, they didn’t reconnect until 2015, when they had their first date at Taylor Swift’s Fourth of July Party. They dated until late 2018 when they got married in a private ceremony.
Their newborn’s name Lyra is inspired by the adventurous character, Lyra Belacqua in Philip Pullman’s acclaimed fantasy series, His Dark Materials. Sheeran stated in a tweet shared in 2015 that the series is “the best books I’ve ever read”. The name also means “Harp”.
