Elon Musk Says Neuralink’s First Brain Chip Implant On Human Was Done Successfully

Elon Musk has announced Neuralink’s first brain chip implant on a human.

Elon Musk’s dream has come true. The famous billionaire has announced progress in his plan to let humans connect their brains wirelessly to their phones and other electrical devices. He revealed that the first human had received a brain implant from his Neuralink company.

He kept the person’s identity private but said they were “recovering well.” He also revealed that “Initial results show promising neuron spike detection.”

Neuralink had initially announced a recruitment process of potential human test subjects for its clinical trial. In May last year, they got approval for the trial from the Food and Drug Administration. The company enlisted people aged 22 and above living with quadriplegia due to a spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Neuralink wrote, “The device is designed to interpret a person’s neural activity, so they can operate a computer or smartphone by simply intending to move – no wires or physical movement are required.”

The company revealed via X that it employs custom-made microscopic needles to conduct its implant. “The tip is only 10 to 12 microns in width—only slightly larger than the diameter of a red blood cell. The small size allows threads to be inserted with minimal damage to the cortex.”
