American actress Jada Pinkett Smith says she was surprised to hear Will call her “wife” during the infamous slap at the 2022 Oscars.
Jada Pinkett Smith is telling her side of the story. The “Set It Off” star was the reason for the 2022 viral Oscars slap during which Will said to Chris Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out your f— mouth,”
She appeared in an interview with the Today show’s Hoda Kotb on Friday and said she was shocked to hear him call her “wife.”
“First of all, I’m really shocked… we haven’t called each other ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ in a long time. What is going on right now?” Pinkett Smith said.
She is currently promoting her upcoming memoir Worthy and has revealed that she and Will have been living separate lives since 2016. The former couple, who share kids Jaden, 25, and Willow, 22, have gone through the official divorce process.
She said, “I’m just out of it ’cause I really worried about Will. Will’s still talking… now he’s mad because Chris is talking to me. And I go, ‘Chris, this is about some old s—.'”
When asked why their marriage ended, she said, “We were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both just kinda stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
