Jub Jub Says Discipline And Passion Are Dead In South African Music

Jub Jub is not pleased with the trajectory of music and musicians in South Africa. He’s made this known in a recent interview with muso Somizi, one of the judges on reality television show Idols SA.

According to Jub Jub, in the music industry in South Africa right now, anything goes. Musicians appear in a hurry; they have lost the passion, and it doesn’t seem like they care for good music. He compared his era and the current one and he shook his head.

His era, which had the likes of BoomShaka and TKZees ruling the airwaves, bubbled with creative passion and good music, but he cannot say the same for the current era, where everyone appears to be a musician. Referencing hip hop specifically, he said there is no discipline and no hunger.

Jub Jub, who currently hosts the popular Uyajola 99 show, might release an album before the end of the year. Maybe in that body of work he might tell artistes how to go about producing good music. Who knows?

Well, what do you think of Jub Jub’s verdict on the music industry, the music and the artistes? Do you share his views? You are welcome to join the conversation by dropping your thoughts in the comment section below.
