Canadian singer and songwriter Justin Bieber has been accused of racial insensitivity and cultural appropriation after he debuted dreadlocks days ago.
The songster had shared a picture of him rocking the new hairstyle, on Instagram. Unimpressed, some members of the Black community lashed out at him, describing him as insensitive.
Dreadlocks are said to be associated with Black culture and many see them as symbols of protest against white oppression. Since he isn’t a Black man some peeps think he should have avoided dreads.
By the way, this isn’t the first time the songster has been accused of insensitivity and cultural appropriation. Back in 2016, he had spotted dreads which provoked an outcry among members of the Black community.
While some peeps are busy bashing the “Peaches” star for his recent hair choice, others are busy defending him.
One fan, defending Bieber, had stated that Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj had not been similarly condemned when they wore wigs of straight blonde hair. The said fan had also stated that Blacks straighten their hair but no one accuse them of cultural appropriation.
Justin Bieber is but one of several celebs who have been accused of cultural appropriation. Those who have been previously accused include Kylie jenner and Miley Cyrus.
