K.O. Talks About Skhanda World Artists’ Exits

SA Hip Hop star K.O has opened up about the exit of former Skhanda World artists from the label.

K.O has not only been known for his great music, but also for mentoring and commissioning the rise of several talents in the SA music industry via his label Skhanda World. Unfortunately, the label has parted ways with some artists and bade farewell to some. K.O spoke to SAHipHopMag about their exits which wasn’t on bad terms.

He said, “It wasn’t necessarily a thing of like we just woke up and said ‘we need this person and we don’t need that other person.’ I think it was just more so, what people need to understand, Skhanda World is in a joint venture with Universal (UMG). So when you have another conglomerate that is also invested in the business, the decisions are no longer just solely for us as Skhanda.”

“There’s a cooperation that says hey so what are the returns you know to your investment and all those kinds of things and we need to answer to those things because Universal rightfully so as an additional partner came in and invested a lot in us making sure that the label becomes what it was supposed to.”

He added, “Unfortunately, as life would have it we didn’t get to land on the green on the lot of the artists. As a result, as much as we have such an affinity and genuine love for everyone that was part of the movement we have to make such harsh decisions,”
