It is a reunion of sorts for local side Kaizer Chiefs and the Italian sportswear brand Kappa as they come together again in a partnership that has been described as landmark.
A look into history might indicate it isn’t an exaggeration, after all. Back in the 90, the sportswear brand had popped into the music scene in Mzansi and revolutionized the game while also preserving the interest of fans.
In this new phase,m though, Amazulu gad entered into a partnership with the brand and now Kappa is the Chiefs’ official technical sponsor and licensing partner from 2023/24. The partnership will run for an initial period of five years. And might be renewed. Or not. Details about that part are unclear at the moment.
In a post on its official Instagram account, the club acknowledged the new partnership while stating its excitement to get back with its former friend. Part of their statement reads:
Kaizer Chiefs and Kappa start a new chapter in the book that is the beautiful story of Amakhosi.
Jessica Motaung, a Kaizer Chiefs executive, was in Italy on Thursday, November 24, where she signed the new partnership with Kappa’s Executive Vice Chairman, Lorenza Boglione.
It remains to be seen where the partnership will take the club.
