Kebby Maphatsoe, Former MKMVA President, Is Dead

Kebby Maphatsoe has died. He was a former president of the Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA).

His death was confirmed yesterday, Tuesday 31 September, by MKMVA spokesperson, Carl Niehaus. He, however, claimed to be unaware of the cause of death at the time, stating he would have to speak to the deceased’s family first.

Until his death yesterday, he was one of the fiercest supporters of former president Jacob Zuma and served as a deputy defence minister from 2014 to 2019. When Zuma was charged with contempt of court and sentenced to 15 months in prison, he was reportedly one of those who had encouraged the former president not to hand himself over to the police.

The report of his death provoked an outpouring of condolence messages from across South Africa, with some social media users highlighting his influence in the Zuma government and what his exit would mean for Mzansi politics.

Details of his funeral are not out yet. But then we might share them with you when they drop. If you want to miss nothing, simply follow our social media, subscribe to our newsfeed, channels and stay tuned for updates.
