Coach Rhulani Mokwena To Support Cassius Mailula

Rhulani Mokwena, coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has expressed his commitment to supporting rising star Cassius Mailula as he continues to impress in his debut season. Mailula, a 21-year-old forward, has already contributed 12 goals and assists this season and has quickly moved ahead of other players in the team with his impressive speed, positioning, playmaking skills, and finishing. Mokwena, who was once part of the club’s youth program, praised Mailula’s potential but also warned of the dangers of the “curse of the rising star” in South African football. He stressed the importance of avoiding too much attention or pressure on the young player and allowing him to develop in a stable environment, similar to successful academy graduates like Percy Tau, Motjeka Madisha, and Siphelele Mkhulise.

Coach Mokwena Praises Pitso Mosimane

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has praised his mentor and former boss, Pitso Mosimane. Mokwena has led Sundowns to 14 consecutive wins, a club record, and is on the way to their sixth consecutive league title. Mokwena compared his relationship with Mosimane to the one between Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola and considers Mosimane a mentor and a father figure. Mosimane is now the manager of Al-Ahli Saudi in the Saudi Arabian second-tier Yelo League. Mokwena was Mosimane’s assistant at Sundowns from 2011 and joined him again in 2020 after a stint at Orlando Pirates. Sundowns are now on 52 points in the league with 10 matches to go, their next game is against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
