Dr Tumi was the guest judge on the reality television show Idols SA last Sunday. His appearance caught many by surprise. After the judging process, famous were unanimous he was the best judge in the history of the show.
As part of our tradition of bringing you the scoop on some keen figures in South African music, we have decided to bring you something on Dr Tumi, whose legal name is Tumisang Makweya.
Dr Tumi is a musician himself, but of the gospel genre. You can check out his biography here. The “Dr” part of his name is not there for decoration. The musician of the “Wafika Story” fame actually hold a medical degree from the Medical University of South Africa .
After a stint in public service, he now runs a private practice in Polokwane, Limpopo.
He runs a regular program called The Gathering of Worshippers, one of the most important and most subscribed gospel meetings in South Africa. Also, he holds the record as the first ever gospel artiste to fill up the 20,000 capacity The Dome.
He is probably the only guest judge so far to receive the greatest public vetting since the reality show started several years ago.
