Mixed Reactions Trail Vic Mensa Being Cast in ProKid’s Biopic

A biopic of the late rap icon ProKid will be out soon, but some South Africans are unimpressed with the choice of American musician Vic Mensa as part of the cast.

ProKid, also called Pro, was a respected rap figure until his sudden death in August 2918.

When the announcement was made for auditions for the biopic, Vic Mensa had apparently taken the plunge and landed a role. But some South Africans think he shouldn’t be a part of the biopic.

The overwhelming argument among those opposed to his appearance in the biopic is that he is American and has no place in a story regarding a South African. One social media user had wondered out loud why a foreigner should be co-opted when there’s an abundance of local talents.

Vic Mensa is no stranger to South Africa, having worked with some of the country’s top talents.

By the way, the biopic, which is being produced by Tbo Touch, is facing opposition from ProKid’s family. The argument from the family is that the late ProKid’s daughter Nonkanyenzi is the legacy holder.

Well, what do you think of the casting of Vic Mensa in ProKid’s biopic? You may want to join the conversation by dropping your thoughts in the comment section below.
