Mzansi Reacts As ANC Branch Props Patrice Motsepe For President

South African businessman Patrice Motsepe is being pushed to join the presidential race. A branch of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) has put forward Motsepe’s name to contest in the forthcoming election.

If he should join the race, then he would be up against President Cyril Ramaphosa and former health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize. Also angling to be president are Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

The branch, which goes under the aegis of Unity 2022, had put forward Motrsepe’s name because, according to it, the businessman is seen to be the only person not seen to be corrupt compared to the other persons mentioned earlier.

It’s unclear if Motsepe would accept the call to vie for president, mainly because he’s a relative to the current president. This isn’t the first time the billionaire’s name is being propped for president, though. The name had been propped previously, but the CAF president didn’t indicate interest in the role.

The reactions to a Motsepe presidency have been pretty mixed in South Africa. One Twitter user noted that the businessman has been struggling as president of CAF, and the presidency of the Rainbow Nation might overwhelm him. You can check out the reactions below.
