The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Julius Malema celebrated his birthday recently, with his compatriots from all walks of life wishing him the best on that day.
Of most significance to most people, though, was a message from former president Jacob Zuma. Yeah, Zuma took out time to wish his former political adversary a happy birthday.
In a post shared on the official X account of the EFF, Zuma could be seen wishing the EFF leader a happy birthday and urging him to work hard to achieve a two-thirds majority.
The clip resonated with many South Africans, with some of them pointing out that a key lesson to be learned from the video of Zuma wishing Malema a happy birthday is that in politics there are no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.
That might in true in the sense that, at some point, both Zuma (as president) and Malema as opposition party leader were political adversaries who fought each other sporadically.
With the former president’s post, it appears like they have put their political differences behind him and are now focused on the future and on what would probably benefit them both. it remains to be seen where this will lead to.
