Pitso Mosimane Exits Al Ahly

PItso Mosimane has left Al Ahly, the Egyptian club where he was formerly a manager and did well.

The South African-born football tactician and the club reached an agreement after a couple of meetings to allow Mosimane to leave. According to information released on the club’s website, his departure was entirely on his own terms.

The Club would have loved him to stay, but Mosimane wanted out. The exact reason for not wanting to continue to pilot the Egyptian club is unclear. However, multiple sources indicated that the South African was exasperated with the constant criticism from a section of the Egyptian press.

The criticism wasn’t exclusive to the press, however. Former celebrated club players had also been critical of his coaching at the club. And at some point, Mosimane decided he’s had enough. And he wanted out.

Mahmoud El-Khatib, president of Al Ahly, Yassin Mainsour, the chair of Al Ahly Football Company, and Hossam Ghaly, the club’s board member, had met with planning committee members and decided to continue with Mosimane as manager. Still, the South African had already made up his mind to leave.

Ultimately, the club decided to approve his decision not to continue at Al Ahly. And it thanked him for his service to the club in a tweet.
