It is never an easy sight when a promising footballer – or anyone for that matter – falls off the ladder and starts roaming the streets, seemingly mentally unstable and oblivious to their surroundings. It is as heartbreaking as can be.
Sadly, this is the reality of former Mamelodi Sundowns player Khayelihle Shozi right now. As early as 2020 (that is three years ago, he was part of the Brazilians and was even promoted to the senior side ahead of a couple of others including Percy Tau).
But a recent picture of Khayelihle Shozi shared on Twitter has left many South Africans in tears. The image, shared by a fan, indicated that the former footballer might be having a mental breakdown. You can check it out below.
Before the image popped online, it was reported that he had gone missing twice. When he was found, his family had taken him for mental rehabilitation and exhausted itself there. He appeared to have lapsed again and returned to the street – and it is patently agonizing for those who knew his glory days on the pitch.
The reality isn’t lost on coach Pitso Mosimane, who commented on the picture and gave a little insight into Shozi’s glory years as part of the Sundowns side.
Hopefully, Khayelihle Shozi recovers soon.
