Tyla Snags 7 Spots On the Top 10 US Billboard Afrobeats Chart

When some people think of her, they see her as the lady from nowhere. One cannot blame those who hold this view of South African singer Tyla. Indeed, until recently, she wasn’t a buzzy figure in South African music.

But that is past tense at the moment. Tyla is the bomb – the most visible South African female musician at the moment, thanks in part to her momentous Grammy win at the age of 22.

She has been on a roll since her Grammy win, currently holding 7 spots on the Top 10 US Billboard Afrobeats Chart. That’s historic for a South African musician and even more consequential for one who is just 22 years old.

Tyla recently released an eponymous album, with most of the songs popping on the chart mentioned earlier – a personal record. “Water,” the song that earned her a Grammy win, also made the list of songs on the chart – not surprising, really.

Other songs that made the list are “On My Body”, “Truth or Dare” and “No.1”. See the post below.

Interestingly, when the album was released, some of her compatriots stated they weren’t “feeling” it. Their verdict, but Tyl looks primed for the stars and there is nothing they can do about it.
