Uncle Vinny On The State Of South African Hip Hop

There’s never a shortage of opinions on the state of South African hip hop. But then that attention paid to what’s said depends in part on the person saying it.

Well, while he might be more famous as a dancer than as a musician, Uncle Vinny has got pretty strong opinions about the country’s hip hop universe.

During an appearance on the Spreading Humours Podcast, Uncle Vinny bared his mind on several subjects, including South African hip hop. He didn’t limit himself to his home base though.

Instead, he encapsulated the global universe of hip hop, pointing out that there’s been a general decline in the genre globally.

The decline in the genre is predicated on the rise of other genres, including amapiano. Vinny admitted his take might be controversial but stated it anyway. You can catch all the details in the embedded video at the end of the post.

With his recent take, Uncle Vinny seemingly joined the side of tweeps, musicians or not, who believe that amapiano is eating lunch of other genres in South Africa.

It will be interesting to see if there will be a change of opinion on Uncle Vinny’s part in the coming days. Stay tuned.
