US Terror Warning: Mondli Gungubele Says No Evidence Of Terror Threat In Sandton

Just recently, the United States Government warned of a possible terror attack in the affluent area of Sandton. Understandably, the warning left many South Africans jittery, especially those who live in and around the area.

Although the government warned of a potential terror attack, it didn’t give specifics on what exactly might happen and when exactly. This lack of certainty is the reason for greater fear among members of the public conversant with the warning.

In an interesting turn of events, though, South Africa’s minister in the presidency, Mondli Gungubele, rubbished the claims of a terrorism threat in Sandton.

Speaking to SABC about the alleged threat, the minister noted that the claim was disturbing. He stated that his security team had performed checks, and there was no evidence of such a threat.

Gungubele, who runs an office that oversees state security, reports directly to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Unitest government warned of a potential terrorist attack via its embassy website. Interestingly, a similar warning was issued in Nigeria, with the American government asking all its non-emergency staff to leave the country immediately.

Well, with Gungubele’s verdict about the alleged threat, it will be interesting to see what will eventually happen -m if at all.
