Vodacom Announces Tariff Hikes

For subscribers of telecoms service provider Vodacom, there is going to be a little pinch as the company has announced a 4.6 per cent bump in the price of its services.

In a recent announcement, Vodacom informed its subscribers that there would be a price increase on postpaid and fibre tariffs.

The announcement was greeted with signs and groans from sections of social media, with some netizens pointing out whether this isn’t a cup against the people, seeing as MTN had also increased tariffs prior.

Indeed, the price adjustment was announced a few months after MTN a few months after MTN made similar adjustments.

The price increase did not come as a surprise to some analysts, though. Actually, with the current court case between the company and Kenneth Nkosana Makate of Please Call Me, some people already predicted the company would increase its tariff.

Of course, companies increase prices from time to time based on market forces and other facts. But the timing of an increase is of great significance and determines what the reception would be.

For whatever reason, the recent price adjustment by Vodacom has led to loud murmuring on social media but has not morphed into anything violent.
