Are South African media houses not doing their duties to the Rainbow Nation? Some South Africans think so, and they have been condemning the media as s result.

At issue is the reporting of crimes allegedly vomited by foreigners, immigration, and the presence of Zimbabweans in the Rainbow Nation.

Zimbabwe might be a neighbour to Mzansi, but denizens of the Rainbow Nations think Zimbabweans have overstayed their welcome in the country and should go back home – or be “shipped” back home so locals can take their jobs.

And according to critics of the Zimbabwean presence, the media have not been reporting the issues as they should – or else have either been underreporting it or reeling out information that favours the Zimbabweans. And the critics are having none of it. So, #VoetsekSAMedia.

The advocacy at the moment appears targeted at Zimbabweans. Before now, the narrative was focused against foreigners (illegal immigrants, so to speak) as a whole, with Nhlanhla Lux in the vanguard with a collective pushing the mantra Operation Dudula.
