Adv. Teffo’s Dramatic Court Disruption On Resumption Of Senzo Meyiwa Trial

The drama continues in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial as Advocate Malesela Teffo popped into the court and sought to see the presiding judge, Maumela, in his chambers over what he considered pressing matters that should not be disclosed in open court.

“We need to go into the chambers of the judge before this matter can commence,” he noted in court on Tuesday following the commencement of the trial, which had been delayed multiple times.

Five men are standing trial for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa, a former goalkeeper for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. He was murdered in the house of his then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in an accident that the authorities have been unabkle to resolve ever since.

Adv. Teffo was represented four of the accused at some point but stepped down in August last year, citing attack on his person bybthe police and other reasons.

The case had been postponed multiple times. When the hearing resumed today, Teffohad popped in to speak with the judge over supposedly urgent issues that cannot be heard in court, The judge’s clerk had asked the other legal reps if they were okay with the judge speaking with Teffo in his chambers.

Teffo was upset with that because, according to him, seeking permission from them was otiose.
