American rapper Jay-Z was the centre of attention, alongside his daughter Blue Ivy, as he stepped onto the stage to receive his award at the recently concluded 66th Grammy Awards over the weekend. It was like any other award ceremony, except that the songster provoked controversy with his acceptance speech.
The songster was honoured with the Dr Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammys. When he took the stage alongside his daughter, he acknowledged the award, thankful that he got it. He also singled out Dr Dre in his speech for his contributions to the growth of other musicians.
His daughter wasn’t left out, as he pointed out that she already won a Grammy (having been featured in the music video of “Brown Skin Girl,” which won a Grammy for Best Music Video). The key highlight of his speech, though, and one which caused the audience to go quiet momentarily was when he called out the Grammys for snubbing his wife Beyonce in the album of the year category.
