It is no longer news that when South Africa emerged victorious at the recently concluded Rugby World Cup in France, a song by Mandoza was played to celebrate that historic moment.
Mandoza was one of South Africa’s most memorable voices. He was born in Sowesto in 1978 and soon emerged as one of the great voices on the music scene back home. Unfortunately, he died you – in 2016. At the time of his death, he was said to be treating pharyngeal cancer and had also lost his sight.
It may have been years since his death, but obviously, his legacy is still humming. This was exemplified once again by the use of his song “Nkalakatha” to celebrate South Africa’s win at the Rugby World Cup. This brings the question of whether his family earned money from the use of the song.
