Much later, it was revealed that the home was actually auctioned for R5 million. A report by local publication City Press indicated that the home was auctioned on Wednesday, 27 September 2023.
Mrs Mops and her husband reportedly owed Nedbank R9 million for the purchase of the mansion and have been unable to pay. Their inability to service their debt reportedly forced the bank to auction the home to recover its money from the couple.
The news of the auction of the property provoked mixed reactions online. Some social media users were sad that the couple should lose their property. Some recall the pain of passing through similar experiences or knowing those who did in the past.
And yet some gloated over the news of the auction, pointing out that Mrs Mops was too arrogant in the past and now has “gotten what she deserved.”
It is unclear what’s next for the couple, but they are certainly not happy to have lost their apartment and with the news blown all over social media.
