Sjava, a gifted singer-songwriter and rapper, was invited to spit an unplanned freestyle on the podcast of David Mashabela. Sjava didn’t think twice and launched into a blazing freestyle dubbed “Langa Lam” without hesitation. Sjava displayed as much moving talent on this freestyle as he would on his own song. With two full-length projects and two EPs under his belt, his musical range must have also expanded.
Years ago, on his debút album, he worked with DJ Maphorisa on a song that spawned into a smash. Afrobeats, hip hop, and modern R&B were all combined in “Isina Muva”, the artist’s experimental first LP. But 2018 saw the release of his critically acclaimed second studio album, “Umqhele.” His sophomore project did go further to expand his African-influenced image, establishing him in different international regions while maintaining his fusion sound (mainly in Africa).
Other great artists that Sjava has had the opportunity to work with include Emtee, AKA, Nadia Nakai and a couple others. Recently, he got on a record with Phantom Steeze for the remix of “Zonke”, and they called in some great features that joined them on the track including AKA, Nadia Nakai, Robot Boii and Buzzi Lee.
