‘Skeem Saam’ Lost 1.3 million Viewers Due To New Timeslot

SABC1’s popular educational drama “Skeem Saam” reportedly lost 1.3 viewers due to its new timeslot.

According to reports by the media, the educational drama Skeem Saam, produced by Peu Communications, is not doing badly after its timeslot was moved from 18:30 to 19:30. According to SABC1, it pulled in an impressive audience rating of over 3.2 million viewers on March 4, 2024, when it debuted in the new timeslot. However, in the previous time slot, the show pulled in an average of 4.5 million viewers. This means that it lost 1.3 million viewers.

The channel has announced the move back in January 2024. The change officially took effect on 5 March 2024.  Kaya FM reports that the episode “featured exciting plots like Leeto uncovering Bullet’s lies, Jacobeth accusing Magongwa of witchcraft after a truck incident, and Sthoko offering to cook dinner for Babeile and Lewatle.”

There have also been a lot of changes in the show. Former Muvhango actress Florence Masebe was reported to be a temporary replacement for Harriet Manamela as Meikie Maputla. Masebe is said to replace Manamela until the end of this airing season.

The SABC released a statement revealing that the decision came about after Harriet Manamela needed to be placed on sick leave to recover from an illness. Her last scene for the season will air on April 5, 2024.
