Tyla Surpasses Burna Boy With Spotify Listeners

Mzansi singer Tyla has surpassed Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter Burna Boy with Spotify listeners to become the second-highest in Africa.

Tyla has been counting blessings all year. The famous singer has grown to massive heights with the viral success of her hit song “Water.” Driven by the Water Challenge on TikTok, Tyla has charted the hit on the Billboard Hot 100, the Official UK Singles Chart, and more.

After breaking Master KG’s record for the Most Spotify listeners for a South African artist, the “Been Thinking” star has now surpassed Nigerian singer Burna Boy to become the African artist with the second-most listeners. Rema, also Nigerian, reigns supreme with 34 million listeners (charged by his massive hit song “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez). Tyla comes second with 21 million, while Burna Boy is third with 18.8 million.

Tyla also recently performed her hit “Water” on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon. The clip shared by the talk show has amassed 1 million likes. Reacting to her impressive journey so far, Tyla wrote,

“Not long ago, I was just a girl in South Africa dreaming of moments like this… Even though I’ve been grindingggg for years it feels like this is all happening so fast. I cannot wait for the world to see what an African Popstar looks like.”
