Rivalry is nothing new in the world, not in music, not in business or anything for that matter. Beyond that, people will always share their thoughts on who they think is more deserving of something, an award or whatever.
This reality played out recently in the South African music scene with local musician Khuzani winning the Song of the Year with his “Umjolo Lowo.” Of course, the win was as pleasant as can be imagined for him.
It was a career boost and a motivation to do more. But there was grumbling in some quarters, among people who felt that he was not actually deserving of the award. The grumblings came mostly from the fans of another maskandi musician, Mthandeni.
Mthandeni’s fans felt that he was the one who should have won song of the year, and not Khuzani. And they have been sharing their grievances all over the place.
Mthandeni, though, has nothing but kind words to share, urging his fans to look beyond the moment and “forgive” Khuzani.
Musicians getting snubbed for an award is nothing new. it happens now and then. After all, it is also impossible for everyone would win an award at the same time. Yeah?
