You put the beat in Afrobeat. A giant. Rest in paradise and thank you for a lifetime of being quietly epic. Honored that some of my most memorable times on this journey were in studios and on stages with you. Journey well Tony Allen 🕊🖤 pic.twitter.com/1XzkFoeZQd

Farewell Tony Allen. Often copied, never bettered. The drummer who never stood still: no two bars the same, always shifting, but never losing the groove. We have him to thank for Afrobeat and for this beautiful piece of drumming for Sébastien Tellier. WC https://t.co/tmiMzSSVaY

🖤 The legendary TONY ALLEN is gone 😢😢😢
The best drummer ever ⚜️
I owe him the magical drum on "LA RITOURNELLE" and more on my albums "POLITICS" and "CONFECTION" 😔
He was a light for all the musicians
One more genius is gone 💔💔💔
Bye bye my friend 🙌🏻💋🌹 pic.twitter.com/NqKb4skSbJ— Sebastien Tellier (@SebTellier) May 1, 2020
Tony Allen was a drumming pioneer, who helped define the Afrobeats genre alongside Late Nigerian Afrobeats legend Fela, as part of the band Africa ’70.
Tony also during his life collaborated with the likes of Blur star Damon Albarn, Clash’s Paul Simonon and Simon Tong of the Verve in super group The Good, The Bad And The Queen. May his soul Rest In Peace.
