Veteran Afrobeat Drummer Tony Allen Passes On

Tributes are pouring in for Tony Allen, who reportedly passed away at the age of 79.

Flea, a member of  Red Hot Chilli Peppers rock band and a frequent collaborator announced the passing of the legendary Nigerian born Afrobeats drummer, Tony Allen.

The drummer who passed away in Paris due to unknown causes has been described has one of the most talented drummers to ever work the industry  and his death came as an ultimate shock.

Tony Allen was a drumming pioneer,  who helped define the Afrobeats genre alongside Late Nigerian Afrobeats legend Fela, as part of the band Africa ’70.

Tony also during his life collaborated with the likes of Blur star Damon Albarn, Clash’s Paul Simonon and Simon Tong of the Verve in super group The Good, The Bad And The Queen. May his soul Rest In Peace.
