Despite the fact that the world is recovering the impact of the crippling pandemic, music has reigned supreme. Some would say, that it has been the therapy that the world needs. While everyone usually focuses on the artiste, some ignore the vital work that goes into creating a song. Thanks to music producers, songs are crafted into what it should be.

A long list of African music producers have stood out from the rest this year. Here’s our list of 10 of them, who have basically owned the airwaves this year.

Rexxie

Popular Nigerian producer, Ezeh Chisom Faith, best known as Rexxie has risen to be a known name in the Nigerian music industry, and also in Africa. Famous for the tag “Yo Rexxie pon dis one”, he attained recognition for producing two of Naira Marley’s hit songs “Soapie”, and “Tesumole”, and several other hits including “Able God” by Chinko Ekun, and more. This year, he received massive attention for the song “KPK” featuring Mohbad. A remix featuring Sho Madjozi has also been released.

KillBeatz

Joseph Kwame Addison popularly called, Killbeatz rose to fame as a member of the music group, R2Bees. He has since established himself as a known name in the Ghanaian music industry, and in Africa. He is also the CEO of the label, Legacy Life Entertainment which boasts the talented singer, King Promise as their artiste. Killbeatz is credited for his work with Sarkodie, Darkovibes, Ed Sheeran and more. He’s also credited for producing a lot of King Promise’s recent hits.

Pheelz

Undeniably one of the biggest names in Africa and Nigeria right now, Philip Kayode Moses a.k.a Pheelz Mr Producer is killing it big time. He is credited for his work with Nigeria’s biggest music names including Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Fireboy, Teni and more. His work on Teni’s “Wondaland” album, and Fireboy Dml’s award-winning “Apollo” album have received praise.

Mr Jazziq

Tumelo Manyoni popularly called Mr JazziQ is undeniably one of the biggest producers in Africa this year. The talented hit maker who also doubles as a DJ is credited for his work on some of the biggest hits in the airwaves right now. He had the world going nuts for his viral hit, “Woza”, and also teamed up with Focalistic on the song “Gupta”. He has since dropped hits with Lady Du, Kabza De Small, Busta 929 and more. JazziQ also released the acclaimed “Party With The English” album this year.

Kaywa

Ghanaian music producer, David Kojo Kyei popularly known as Kaywa or KaywaBeats is undoubtedly one of Africa’s best music producers. The very spiritual and Gospel inclined beat maker has made a name for himself not only in Ghana, but also in various parts of Africa. This year, he has collaborated with many big names mostly out of Ghana including MOG Music, Mr Drew on his highly anticipated upcoming album titled “Alpha”, and several others.

Kabza De Small

Kabelo Petrus Motha a.k.a Kabza De Small has certainly been putting in good work this year. The talented South African music producer and DJ is one half of the popular Piano duo, Scorpion Kings. He is credited on some of the biggest hits in the airwaves this year, including “Woza”, “Banyana”, “Folasade”, and more. Kabelo has collaborated with the biggest artistes and DJs in SA this year, including Sir Trill, Major League, Busta 929, Mr JazziQ, Lady Du, Josiah de Disciple and more.

DJ Maphorisa

If anyone has put in noticeable work this year, it is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe a.k.a DJ Maphorisa. The second half of the Scorpion Kings duo has also been one of the most consistent producers this year. He has commissioned several hits including “Banyana”, “Folasade”, and more. He has also collaborated with top names both as Maphorisa and also as Madumane. Porry has dropped hits with Tresor, Kabza De Small, CIZA, and more, and is expected to support Wizkid on his North American tour.

Ayo Lizer

Tanzanian music producer, Ayo Lizer is truly one of the biggest names in music industry right now. Best known as the official producer for Diamond Platnumz’s massive record label, WCB Wasafi, Ayo has made a name for himself as the man behind several top hits from the label. His work on Zuchu’s 2021 release “Sukari” was well recognized. He has also worked with Mbosso, Diamond Platnumz and more on long list of hits that have dominated the airwaves this year.

S2kizzy

Popular Tanzanian record producer, and songwriter, Salmin Kasimu Maengo best known as S2kizzy is currently one of Africa’s hottest producers. The talented hit maker has gained so much recognition for his work with East Africa’s top artistes including Diamond Platnumz on “Amabako”, Rayvanny on “Tetema”, and more. This year, he has crafted some of the biggest hits in the airwaves including “Kamata”, also by Diamond and more. He also gained praise following the release of Platnumz’s latest jam “Iyo” which he produced.

Magix Enga

Kenyan music producer, Magix Enga is undeniably one of the hottest hit makers in the music industry right now. He has delivered massive hits to the airwaves and also worked with some of the biggest artistes in the industry. He has also commissioned several solo hits including the most recent ones “Stresss Free”, “Vasha”, and more. Magix Enga recently shook the airwaves with his newest project, the “Ulizia EP”. The Boom Bap Hip Hop album was majorly produced and directed by him.
