South African Songs with the most download numbers and streams

South African songs released from last year ending to this year with the most downloads and streaming number.

While the music industry has suffered a huge hit this year as a result of the lockdown, it has also had a boost in streams and music downloads. This is because it is one of the few ways fans and music lovers still get to support their favourite artists.

The only problem now is that of piracy which has affected download numbers. However, music streams have been quite good, and hit songs have gathered millions of them. Some of the songs released this year, and in the ending weeks of last year have already garnered a large number of streams.

Factors we took in consideration are how long these songs stayed on top music streaming services aand download sites, how they perform on radio station, how much their videos performed on video hosting services and many more factors.

Notable names including Scorpion kings, Blaq Diamond, Prince Kaybee, Master KG, Mfr Souls, Q Twins and more have reigned supreme. Their songs have raked in massive streams and are still doing quite well. Here are some of the songs with the most downloads and streaming numbers.

  • Kabza de Small, Dj Maphorisa – Emcimbini Ft. Samthing Soweto, Aymos, Mas Musiq & Myztro

Scorpion Kings took over the charts in a big way in the first quarter of the year. “Emcimbini” fronted by DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small features Aymos, Samthing Soweto, Mas Musiq and Myztro. It has recorded a lot of streams, and downloads and currently has a total of 2.9 million streams on YouTube alone.

  • Black Coffee – SBCNCSLY Ft. Sabrina Claudio

DJ Black Coffee dropped the title track of his forthcoming album “SBCNCSLY” in the last week of April. The song, featuring Sabrina Claudio gained a lot of love and practically tore through the charts. Its audio currently sits on over 230k streams on YouTube.

  • Kabza De Small & DJ Maphorisa – Hello

You might as well call Amapiano’s Scorpion Kings the king of the charts this year. The two disc jockeys appear for a second time on our list with Hello. The song has become a favourite for many and now has a total of 1.4 million streams on YouTube alone.

  • Blaq Diamond – Love Letter

The year has been a really fulfilling one for Blaq Diamond thanks to their song “Love Letter”. Since its release, it has amassed millions of streams on various platforms including YouTube where is has 3.6 million. It is also one of the most downloaded songs of the year.

  • Kabza De Small & DJ Maphorisa – Lorch ft. Semi Tee, Miano & Kammu Dee

Released in December last year, Lorch by the Scorpion Kings became a huge hit in SA. The song featuring contributions from Miano, Semi Tee and Kammu Dee fast became a fan favourite.  Although its video was a bit disappointing, it has reached over 750k streams on YouTube alone.

  • Q Twins – Hamba Ft. DJ Tira

Afrotainment’s Q Twins made their mark this year. The two dropped their first single “Hamba” featuring DJ Tira and it became an instant hit. It garnered 1 million streams on YouTube in just one week. It now has over 4.2 million and counting.

  • Ricus Nel – Boerepompie Ft. Snotkop

Ricus Nel blew minds this year with his impressive hit “Boerepompie” which is still raking in massive streams. The song featuring Snotkop has been a huge success since it was released and now has over 7.4 million streams on YouTube alone.

  • Dj Maphorisa x Kabza De Small – Ithemba’lam ft. Shasha

There would be no list if Amapiano’s Scorpion Kings didn’t appear many times. The duo released a couple of projects this year which made huge impressions on the charts. iThemba’lam featuring Sha Sha currently sits on over 117 thousand streams on YouTube alone without any promotion.

  • Nasty C – There They Go

In the ending week of March Nasty dropped the first single off his forthcoming album “Zulu Man With Some Power” and his fans went wild. The song tore through the charts gaining massive streams and downloads. It currently has over 953k streams on YouTube right now. It’s only a matter of time before it hits 1 million.

  • Dj Maphorisa x Kabza De Small – Sandton Ft. Focalistic, Kamo Mphela, Bontle Smith
