Actress Nelisiwe Sibiya had a dramatic moment recently after she called Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) supporters “amaqabane,” which translates to “comrades.”
The actress was speaking to supporters f the Inkatha Freedom Party recently and used what was considered an inappropriate political term to address them. The “amaqabane” term is said to be a very common phrase in the ANC (African National Congress) circles.
IFP and ANC are not on the same page politically. While the ANC is currently in power in South Africa, the IFP is one of the opposition parties trying to gain power.
It was to have been a memorable moment for the actress during the Miss King Cetshwayo beauty pageant event at the University of Zululand, where she was to speak. But she goofed by mentioning the term and was booed off the stage.
Sources claim she was just happy to be a part of the occasion but didn’t realize when she slipped and provoked the crowd.
Anyway, reality show judge Somizi reportedly saved the day when he popped into the stage at that point and the crowd cheered and seemingly forget the moment’s irritation caused by Nelisiwe Sibiya. She has learned her lessons though and should be more conscious of her environment now.
