Actress Nomzamo Mbatha On Retelling The Story Of Queen Nandi

Shaka Ilembe appears to be the in-thing in the world of South African film at the moment, as the Rainbow Nation appears focused on the flick, which is set in the 1700s and tells the story of South Africa’s greatest king, Shaka Zulu.

Well, one woman who is part of the production is none other than the actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who played the role of Queen Nandi. That’s indeed a challenging role, and it takes a skilled actress to bring the character to life. She did give some insight into the character as well.

Nandi is not just another queen but the mother of the legendary king, so she has a special place not just in the story but IN South African history as well.

Shaka Ilembe, which premiered on 18th June, had Nomzamo Mbatha as an executive producer. According to her, the Nandi character has always been portrayed from the point of view of the men around her.

She’s never had her own stand-alone story. So they (she and other producers) decided to explore that angle in the story. Based on the results so far — the general reception for the flick — it might well be said that the decision had paid off.
