The rage of a fire, who can stop it? That’s one rhetorical question one finds throughout literature. So it was inevitable it should pop into mind when a fire erupted at the Pretoria Campus of the University of South Africa.
According to eyewitness reports, the fire had broken out at the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela building on the Muckleneuk campus in Pretoria on Tuesday night, destroying a part of the building. the fire raged into the early hours of the following day when the fire service arrived.
Thabo Charles Mabaso, the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department spokesperson, the fire service was called on Wednesday and arrived at 1 a.m. Delving into some detail, Mabaso noted that the firefighters saw the dense smoke coming from the building even before they arrived on the scene.
The firefighters battled to gain entry into the building, assisted by campus security. Stacks of books were found smoldering in various places in the building, according to Mabaso.
