Lucky Dube: Mzansi Remembers Late Reggae Icon

Today is not the day of his birth, nor is it the day he was murdered in Johannesburg, South Africa. But Mzansi just woke up somehow began thinking of the reggae icon Lucky Dube.

While some described him as being among the most significant South African artists, others wished he was still around and spitting the bars.

The songster was a prolific artist who created 22 albums in 25 years of music-making. And although he’s no longer on the scene, the impact of his creations are still felt across South Africa and internationally.

Also, he remains one of the bestselling South African musicians long after his death – thanks in part to the eternal messages of his songs.

Lucky Dube, who would have been 56 this year, stands out for songs like “Slave” and “Remember Me.”

Well, South Africans have remembered him, and from the look of things, they’re going to remember him for a long time. His legacy continues to him long after. He left the material plane.

Commenting on Lucky Dube’s catalogue, the marketing manager of the late musician’s record label noted that it was an honour to represent the slain music icon and his catalogue, which still has global influence even after his death.
