Mthunzi won four awards at the Metro FM Music Awards, earning himself a R300 000 win alongside Kabza De Small.
Kabza De Small and Mthunzi will be smiling to the bank after winning big at the Metro FM Music Awards over the weekend. The 18th Metro FM Music Awards, in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, saw the two talents scoop the biggest wins on Saturday night.
Their wins include Best Produced Album, Best Collaboration, Best Amapiano, and Song of the Year. Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela also shared the news on the X app and revealed that he wasn’t sure if Kabza would share the money with the featured artists, especially the ones on their song “Imithandazo.”
He wrote, “I don’t know if he will only share with Mthuzi or everybody credited on the track will get some cut. Six artists credited on Song of The Year titled Imithandazo.”
The song is from Kabza and Mthunzi’s successful collaborative album “Isimo,” and it features contributions from Young Stunna, DJ Maphorisa, Sizwe Alakine, and Umthakathi Kush.
Speaking at the event, Metro Fm Presenter, Thami Ngubeni said,
“For the mere fact that the Metro FM Music Awards are being held on Freedoms Day is in it self symbolic. 30 years ago we couldn’t gather like this, the opportunities that young people have in music, in business, these opportunities were not available to us 30 years ago. Today we celebrate the stride that we have made.”
