My Life Lessons, According Nomcebo Zikode

Not everyone had it grand from the beginning. Some struggle greatly before their big break. Of course, out of that struggle comes a better understanding of life, a sense of gratitude, and so much more.

South African singer Nomcebo Zikode is one lady who has seen a lot before her big break. At some point, she was an unknown figure, depressed – “a poplar thirsting for sunlight,” as Christopher Okigbo would say. But then, she had the sense to keep on pushing.

The result is that she has become a massive music success and a voice many younger people look up to. Reflecting on her journey so far, she made it known that she had learned not to give up on life. She should know, perhaps. After all, she worked her way from the bottom to the top, where she currently is.

if she had given up along the way, she would probably not be where she currently is – one of the voices behind “Jerusalema,” easily one of the biggest songs in South Africa to date. She is also a Grammy award winner – a milestone she scored via a collaborative work with two other musicians, including Zakes Bantwini.

Well, it bears repeating that Nomcebo has learned not to give up in life.
