Video-streaming platform YouTube has announced a $100 million fund dubbed Black Voices Fund. The fund’s focus is on the black race.
The announcement has been greeted with great excitement by creators around the world, especially those without proper funding, who can now take their creative ideas about black experiences to new orbit.
To be eligible for the fund, applicants must submit an application via the official channel, indicating their contacts, including race. To qualify, you should at least have a YouTube channel or be a musician with a YouTube channel.
According to Alex Okosi, the managing director of Emerging Markets, YouTube EMEA, the fund was first announced in June this year but has only just been named the YouTube Black Voices Fund.
The fund is meant to support black creatives and musicians in countries like South Africa, Brazil, Nigeria and the United States.
Google, which operates the fund, reserves the right to determine eligibility and to administer grants from the fund, if you’re selected
