Mzansi has shared their reactions to a throwback video of Rebecca Malope as a pop star.
Gospel singer Rebecca Malope is one of Africa’s biggest singers in the genre. She is known for her many hits, including “Ngibe Muhle Nami,” “Nkarabe,” “Umoya Wam,” and more. Most fans did not know she had a past as a mainstream pop artist.
Imagine the shock on fans’ faces when they found out on social media yesterday. An X app user, @LeratoN_, tweeted a throwback video of the singer as a pop artist. He wrote, “Guys, Rebecca Malope used to be a popstar.” She was dressed in a short outfit while she sang and danced.
Fans of the Gospel star have shared their shocked reactions to the video. Some stated that she could have rivaled the iconic Brenda Fassie if she had kept up with it. Others praised her for leaving pop music to make Gospel.
@Sifisomessiah wrote, “People that are from the streets and are now in church most of the time have thee most sincere intentions towards God.” Reacting, @EPristo wrote, “She used this to enter the industry and as soon as she had enough power and control, she pursued he real passion. She did not lose herself in all that pop and glamour. That is something admirable.”
