Mzansi Shocked As The SAFTAs Snubs SABC soapies ‘Uzalo’, ‘Skeem Saam’, and ‘Generations’

Mzansi was shocked as the SAFTAs snubbed popular SABC soapies ‘Uzalo,’ ‘Skeem Saam,’ and ‘Generations’ without giving them a single award.

How would you feel when you attend an award ceremony with high hopes and end up walking away with nothing? Of course, we would be disappointed. Now, imagine how several production houses, actors, and actresses felt at the end of the SAFTAs last weekend.

The South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) celebrated films and series that entertained Mzansi this year on 29 September. The awards event was a success, and it received praise on social media. It also received a lot of controversies after SABC shows ‘Uzalo,’ ‘Skeem Saam,’ and ‘Generations’ were snubbed.

Briefly reports that “Popular SABC soapies Generations: The Legacy, Giyani: Land of Blood, Uzalo, The Estate, and Skeem Saam had a combined 17 nominations but walked away empty-handed. Generations: The Legacy received recognition in the Best Achievement in Scriptwriting category and Best Actress in a TV Soap in honour of Refilwe Madupo, among other nods.”

Viewers were also shocked to see this. They took to social media to share their thoughts and also praised some of the works and people they felt deserved an award or two. Netflix bagged 19 golden horns, while kykNET bagged an impressive 15 wins. Showmax and e.tv also took home 10 and eight wins, respectively, while M-Net scored seven wins.
