Sello Maake KaNcube Addresses Controversial Zimbabwe Trip

Celebrated South African actor Sello Maake KaNcube is one of three celebs whose recent visits to Zimbabwe and praise of the regime in power had elicited controversy and even outright condemnation by his compatriots. Well, he has finally addressed the controversy his trip provoked.

On his visit to the country, he was hosted by the country’s officials and shared positive thoughts about the country, which is currently being riled by the ZANU-PF (Zimbabwean African National Union-Patriotic Front). His take on the country left netizens unimpressed and some lashed at him without reservations.

Now, addressing the whole controversy, the veteran actor noted that he was in the country to tour it for professional reasons. He also noted that the visit had a personal meaning to him, as his wife is half-Zimbabwean.

The actor had been invited by the Zimbabwean authorities and he decided to go because, according to him, the visit aligned with his campaign of taking his expertise in the arts to Africa as “I find myself hamstrung to make a contribution in my own country.”

Other celebs who had faced criticisms for the visit to Zimbabwean and positive comments about the country under ZANU-PF include Pearl Thusi and Sonia Mbele
