Shepherd Bushiri’s Assets Set To Be Auctioned – Reports

For Malawian cleric, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, the dram never stops. At a time when many had apparently forgotten about his sojourn in South Africa and the controversies surrounding his stay in the country, news had broken that the authorities are auctioning his multimillion-rand home.

The controversial cleric and leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) reportedly had an outstanding R200 million which he had taken from JM Busha Investments, a Johannesburg investment company. And since he fled the country and has not paid, the decision was made to sell the assets of his church in South Africa.

His R5.5 million mansion was seized in 2020 and has reportedly just been put on auction. It is also reported that his luxury cars, including a Rolls Royce, a Maserati, a Mercedes Benz G Wagon and a BMW will be auctioned as well, as part of efforts to recover the loan he took.

Bushiri and his wife Mary were arrested in 2020 on fraud and money laundering charges. The couple reportedly laundered the sum of R102 million. They were granted bail following an appearance in court. They fled to Malawi soon after and have been there since. They insist on their innocence but are impotent to stop the auction at this point.
