SPINNERS Rapper Raises Concerns Over The Royalty Mess In The SA Music Scene

A SPINNERS rapper has raised concerns over the royalty payment mess in the South African music industry.

A lot can be said about the payment of royalties in South Africa. It always comes down to artists either not being paid for their works or getting less than they deserve.

A rapper Isaac Mutant, featured on Showmax’s SPINNERS, recently raised concerns over these issues in the SA music industry. Mutant, appears alongside Angie Oeh and Hemelbesem in the soundtrack that features 31 tracks. He shared that they haven’t been given fair pay.

On Facebook, Mutant shared an update on the royalty payment issues. He revealed that each track on the new SPINNERS album was given R8000 but he only received R3,900 in royalties despite several songs being used on the project.

Through the post, he asked “How much did they make on SPINNERS?”

According to reports, the soundtrack was curated by DJ Ready D. The Showmax show follows the story of the life of crime and gang wars. It is brought to live by South African alternative music.

The conversation of artist not getting past enough royalties for their work has dominated the South African music scene. No one knows where they money goes.
