What You Need To Know About John Vuli Gate

The phrase John Vuli Gate has captured the attention of Mzansi. It became a household phrase exactly two months after the South African boy band Mapara A Jazz released a song of the same title, featuring Ntosh Gazi and Colano.

Contrary to what many out there are thinking, John VUli Gate is not a person. It’s just the title of a song recently gone viral. When Mapara A Jazz released the song in August, they had no idea it would blow up two months later, leading to John Vuli Gate challenge, which has gone viral as well.

The inspiration for the song is said to be a scene from the film Tsotsi. In the scene, which showed a woman being kidnapped along with her child, the woman had asked for help from a security guard named John, asking him to open the gate – hence John Vuli Gate.

So next time you hear John Vuli Gate, resist the temptation to think it is a person. What you have, actually, is a song that has caught the fire of virality and might retain the fire for a long time.
