Ankole Cattle Auction: Bela Bela Residents Express Mixed Reactions

It’s a season of mixed feelings for residents of Bela Bela in Limpopo over the Ankole cattle auction taking place at Phala Phala farm, owned by president Cyril Ramaphosa.

The farm has been plagued with controversy after former police chief Arthur Fraser claimed that a robbery had taken place on the property in 2020 during which millions of dollars were stolen. Still, President Ramaphosa refused to disclose the theft to the public.

Having about 4 million dollars in that apartment raises questions about the source of the money and the president’s integrity.

Anyway, the cattle on the farm are being auctioned off by the Ankole Cattle Breeders Society of South Africa. The media is barred from coming to the auction, however.

While the purpose is to auction off the cattle on the president’s farm, Bela Bela residents have not missed the opportunity to interrogate why the auction is taking place in the first place.

Some residents noted that the president is being attacked politically, and there’s no truth to what his critics have said about him and what really transpired at the farm. Some wouldn’t be dragged into the controversy. They said the law should take its course, and whatever it is, why not?
