Luxury fashion brand Balenciaga is at it again, giving South Africans reasons for a good laugh. In case you’re unaware, the brand recently introduced what it calls the Balenciaga towel skirt, a unisex affair that looks exactly like its name. The price? a cool R16k.
Of course, South Africans were split between the utility of the towel skirt and the hefty sum placed as its price tag. Some wondered out loud where people would be able to wear the towel skirt to and some scoffed at the price tag. To each his verdict, obviously.
From the look of things, Balenciaga is doing everything to stand out in the highly competitive fashion world. Just last year, the brand caused a stir with its trash bag-inspired handbag. Many found the offering shocking and wondered where people would be able to take those to – the same reaction that has manifested with the towel skirt.

It is obvious at this point that Balenciaga will continue experimenting, giving the general public reasons to continue to talk about its brand, and maybe check out other offerings if the “jarring” offerings do not resonate with them.
