12 South African Top Music DJs

Here are the top South African music DJs you should get acquainted with.

Everyone in SA has probably vibed to or made a favourite out of a song created and fronted by an Mzansi DJ. Some Disc Jockeys in Mzansi have proven to be even more creative and talented than many artistes in the country. Each year, they deliver the kind of hits that literally take over the airwaves and claim the dance floor. Mzansi DJs have also aided in launching the careers of most unheard vocalists and artistes and continue to prove themselves as the best in the music game.

Here are some top SA DJs you should always have their music on your playlist.

  • DJ Zinhle

DJ Zinhle has come a long way to be present on this list. From last year into this year, the popular disc jockey has been one of the biggest names on the charts all thanks to her hit song “Umlilo” featuring Mvzzle and Rethabile. She may be a mother of one, but that hasn’t stopped her from delivering good music like “Pepe”, “Against The Grain”, and more.

  • Master KG

Master KG is one very humble hitmaker who we’re not sure knows just how talented he is. He first showed the world his worth with “Skeleton Move” featuring Zanda Zakuza, a tune that still hasn’t died down till now. This year, he’s won big time already with his platinum selling “Jerusalema” featuring Nomcebo. He continues to show his dominance with new hits with Makhadzi and more.

  • TNS

If anyone on this list has enough confidence in what they can deliver, then it is TNS. The talented disc jockey and producer may look smallish but he’s got a lot of muscle behind the turntables. With hits like “My Dali” featuring Indlovukazi, “Umona” featuring Mpumi, “Uzongilinga” featuring Fey, and more to come, he’s certainly one of many unique DJs in Mzansi. With a new album on the way, he is set to change the game in a really big way this year.

  • Prince Kaybee

If you like to count hits as a criteria to being one of the best DJs on the continent, this guy would be one of the artistes in the top part of that list. He has got hits for days including “Gugulethu” featuring Indlovukazi, Supta, and Afro Brothers, “Banomoya” featuring Busiswa and TNS, “Fetch Your Life” featuring Msaki to mention a few. His newest chart topper, “Uwrongo” featuring Shimza, Black Motion, and Ami Faku is still pulling a lot of weight on the airwaves and charts. The genius that is Prince Kaybee has surely come to stay and will last for a really long while.

  • DJ Sbu

DJ Sbu must be really favoured because he doesn’t have to do much to be on everyone’s radar. For a while, he has only released a handful of songs, only getting back into releasing music this year but he’s still one of the top DJs in Mzansi. He’s made hits including “Vum Vum” with Nigerian singer, Patoranking, “The Hustle” with Jay Stash, “Remember When It Rained” and more. Our favourite bearded man, is both a radio host and a DJ. He’s set to drop his new single, “Maru A Pula” on Sunday, 1 March. That’s certainly going to be huge.

  • DJ Shimza

DJ Shimza is nobody’s mate in the industry. In fact, he’s comfortably riding in his own lane and bothered about no one else but his fans and all that they expect of him. The talented producer is one of many DJs who spend more time cooking up and dishing mixes like the “Morning Flava Mix”, “More Than Sound Mix” and more. He also performs successful sets at sold out shows than release singles and feature artistes. He is currently preparing to perform at the Mozambique edition of his upcoming One Man Show.

  • Kabza De Small

The King of Amapiano and self acclaimed Mama’s boy. Anyone in Mzansi who isn’t acquainted with Kabza’s music isn’t really listening to good music. The talented hitmaker is credited to have made Amapiano what it is today and he continues to do so both as a solo act and as one-half of the Amapiano duo, Scorpion Kings. “Wena Wedwa”, “Phoyiso” with Cassper Nyovest, “Emcimbini”, “Hello”, the list is endless, that’s how much Kabza De Small fills the airwaves with hit songs which have his name on them. Rumor has it that he has more planned for this year.

  • DJ Maphorisa

After Kabza, there usually is Maphorisa, the man with the hits. The brilliance of this man here is second to none, and it is obvious in the kind of music he creates. He has made a name for himself by joining in on the Amapiano campaign and becoming Kabza De Small’s right hand man as one of the Scorpion King duo. Whether Gqom, House or Amapiano, he is well versed in all. With hits like “Midnight Starring”, “Particular” with Major Lazer and more, “Akulaleki”, “Love You Tonight”, “Koko”, he has appeared on and fronted some of the biggest hits to take over the airwaves.

  • Oskido

Oskido is practically everyone’s favourite DJ. It is hard to find anyone in Mzansi who doesn’t think he’s a god when it comes to delivering catchy tunes and hits. He’s dropped some massive hits including “Dlala Piano” with Winnie Khumalo, “Bayathetha” with Zonke, and has songs with some of the best in the game including Toshi. How he reinvents himself is just beautiful to follow. It is obvious he’ll be around for a really long while.

  • Euphonik

We wonder if House music and Tech would ever be the same if Euphonik never found fame. The talented producer is created as one of the disc jockeys who gave a voice to the genres. These days he spends more time working on new music, performing sets and raking in cash. We wonder if we are the only ones who loose it once “All The Moves” featuring DJ Thackzin and Leko M starts playing. He’s constantly dished successful mixes including “4 December 2019”, “27 November 2019”, “22 January 2020”, etc.

  • DJ Tira

DJ Tira is not just a successful disc jockey and music producer, he is also the father of many in the SA music industry. With a popular label under his charge, he still dishes amazing music. How can one be so busy and still so talented and successful? He’s credited for dishing hits like “Thank You Mr DJ” with Joocy, “Woza Mshanami” Dladla Mshunqisi & CampMasters, “Hamba” with Q Twins and more. The year is still young and we expect more dominance from him.

  • DJ Black Coffee

DJ Black Coffee is the DJ of all DJs. It is safe to call him the King of DJs in Mzansi. He has not only dominated SA, he’s also dominated Africa and spread his tentacles all over the globe. He’s made fans out of top American artistes and celebs and continues to sell Mzansi to the world. Last year he delivered “Lalala” with Usher, and played successful sets across the globe. These days, he doesn’t really need to drop new music to be at the top, he only needs to be his talented self.
