“Made In Africa”, Costa Titch’s Debut Album, Turns 2

It seemed just like yesterday when South African musician and dancer Costa Titch released his debut album “Made in Africa.” But, in reality, two years have passed. And the songster himself had garnered a lot of experience at that time.

“Made in Africa” was indeed made in Africa – Mzansi, to be specific. However, it was also a definitive project that embedded the songster in the consciousness of many South Africans and provoked debate about what some tweets called “cultural appropriation.”

In his bars, the songster had adopted kasi phrases that some tweeps insisted were foreign to the culture he grew up in. and yet some of his supporters dismissed the claims of cultural appropriation against him.

Either way, that project, which bears 17 songs, and plays for exactly 47 minutes and 32 seconds, effortlessly showed the musical appeal of the songster – and appeal that has remained two years after.

The appeal has actually grown, with the songster being seen as one of the voices of the South African hip hop revival.

“Made in Africa” got part of its appeal from the force of the guest artists behind it, including Sjava, AKA, DJ Maphorisa, Boskasie, Phantom Steeze, 25k, Frank Casino, Tshego, YoungstaCPT, Rouge, and the late Riky Rick.
